After my parents died, chaos began. My mother, Barbara Ann Jones-Miantay, an African-American, was buried as Barbara Ann Jones. My father, Antony Brian Miantay, a Caucasian, was buried as Anthony Demonte. My Aunt Penya, who was caring for me at the time, had become overwhelmed with what to do with me. When my aunt told me that my parents had "gone to Heaven". I withdrew from the world. I did not understand why my parents no longer loved me. At the time, my aunt was not able to take care of me. She was in college and did not have a job and she lived with a roommate. There was no one else to take care of me. My mother and father's families did not even acknowledge that I existed. Neither side of the family wanted anything to do with me. My Aunt Penya was going to try to adopt me, but the was opposition from my mother's family. My aunt was told that if she adopted me, she would be rejected by the family just as my mother had been rejected. My aunt took care of me for two or three months after my parents died. On November 2, 1986, I became a ward of the state of Maddocha. My Aunt Penya was forbidden to see me, so I had no family.
